Lauren Rubin, LMSW
Therapy might seem intimidating, but I work from a very friendly and relatable approach. My style of therapy is affirming and non-judgmental. I like to think of our sessions as two humans navigating whatever challenge you’re going through. I’m just as curious about how your past shaped you as I am about your goals for the future. On my therapy couch, it's safe to share your secrets, access your most vulnerable feelings, and truly feel seen by another person. However, I also challenge my clients, when appropriate, because I believe that good therapy means seeing real changes in the behaviors and thought patterns that aren't serving you.
I especially love working with those who are new to therapy, so if you're a first-timer or early in your therapy journey, I'm here to make the process feel truly approachable.
I specialize in working with low self-esteem; often, this looks like negative self-talk, lack of boundaries, or social comparison. I work from an integrative, compassion-based approach that combines cognitive behavioral, mindfulness, and psychodynamic therapies to help with additional issues including depression, anxiety, stress, and lack of purpose. As a career switcher, I understand the unique challenges faced by those questioning or actively changing their professional path. I'm also an abstract artist and enjoy working with creatives.
Whether you're feeling "stuck," unhappy, overwhelmed, or unmotivated, I firmly believe that therapy can be useful for anyone, at any time. I’m seeing clients in-person in Greenpoint and Union Square or virtually. Let's have a free consultation call to see if we're a good fit.
